01 When revisions apply
Revisions are offered at the design stage and at the sample stage — before artwork is approved for production. If you are not satisfied with the layout, the typography, or the way a finish has been specified, that is the moment to tell us.
Once artwork is approved and the job moves to plates, press or die, changes are no longer revisions. They are a new job, and they are quoted as one.
02 What a revision covers
Within the concept you have approved, a revision includes:
- Text edits and corrections
- Layout, spacing and alignment adjustments
- Repositioning of logos, images and elements
- Colour adjustments within the specified process
- Changes to a dieline that do not alter the structure
A revision refines the design in front of you. Rewriting the concept — a different box structure, a new identity, a rebrand, or a fresh set of visuals — is new design work. We are glad to take it on, and we will quote it separately with a revised timeline.
03 How many revisions are included
Three rounds of revision within the same concept are included at no charge before production. Rounds beyond that are chargeable at our standard design rate, which we will confirm to you before we start on them.
Please consolidate your comments into one set per round. Changes arriving piecemeal over several days consume rounds quickly and push the schedule for everyone in the queue behind you.
04 Approval, and the point of no return
No revisions are possible after artwork approval. Approval is what releases the job to pre-press, and offset work in particular commits plates, ink, stock and press time the moment it does. Those costs are incurred whether or not the job is later changed.
If a change becomes genuinely unavoidable after approval, tell us immediately. If the job has not yet reached press we will do whatever we can; any work already carried out, and any materials already committed, will be chargeable.
05 Your responsibility for approval
It is the client’s responsibility to check and approve artwork carefully — spelling, names, telephone numbers, prices, barcodes, quantities, dimensions and language. We do not proofread on your behalf. An error carried through an approved file into a printed run is not a defect in our work, and a reprint in that case is chargeable.
Dissatisfaction with a design you have signed off, once the job has been produced to that approved artwork, is not a basis for a reprint or a refund. Everything that matters has to be settled before approval, which is exactly what the revision rounds are for.
06 Proofs and samples
We supply a proof on every job, and where the finish warrants it a physical sample on the actual stock, so that you can see the work before it runs. Approving on a screen alone is your choice and your risk — a screen shows you none of the weight, texture, foil or trim that decides how a printed piece feels in the hand.
Paid samples are available on most jobs and we recommend them for anything with an unusual stock or finish. A sample is the cheapest revision you will ever buy.
07 Related terms
Cancellations and refunds are dealt with in our Order Cancellation Policy. Charges for additional design rounds are invoiced under our Payment Terms & Conditions.
Need a change made?
If your job is still at design or sample stage, send your comments through in one set and we will turn them around.
